Skills Assessment for Migration

For many overseas Chefs, Cooks, Bakers and Personal Care Workers where English is not their native language, navigating through the minefield of obtaining a Skills Assessment can be a daunting and time consuming process.

If you do require a Skills Assessment for visa eligibility, it is essential that you start as soon as possible as they can take up to 3 months to complete.

The Skills Assessment Program is an assessment pathway for applicants applying for a Skills in Demand (SID) 482 or 494 visa.

A skills assessment determines if you have the skills and experience necessary to work in Australia at the trade level for your occupation.

There are two skills assessment pathways available under the Skills Assessment Program:

  • Applicants that do not hold an Australian VET qualification in their trade

  • Applicants that do hold an Australian VET qualification

In addition to your qualification you must:

  • be able to demonstrate work experience of at least 3 years full-time employment in a directly related occupation - including 12 months full-time paid employment in your nominated occupation in the 3 years prior to lodging your application
